After 13 months at our location we have decided to close our doors. As many of you know, we began this process nearly 3 years ago when we started selling Neiman Marcus items on eBay. We found such success on eBay that we opened a store-front in October 2009. We enjoyed meeting new customers and offering amazing savings on high-quality merchandise. We will continue selling on eBay under the name of upperhand73. Our last day in Thursday, December 30, 2010.
Thank you to all of our customers!!

eBay... it's a wonderful thing
Here's a great story for you! Shortly after we opened we received a beautiful Nina Ricci vintage dress. The tags were intact and the dress was in excellent condition.... except for one the straps. The silver lurex had come updone, but we were happy to find a long length of extra lurex which could easily replace the existing strap. I'm constantly amazed at the price on some of these designer dresses and this dress was no exception. The retail cost was $1890.00 -- that's right, nearly two thousand dollars! Because the strap needed some attention we marked the dress 90% off, so $189.00. There were several lookers in the store, but no buyers. Finally, we listed it on eBay and received a bid for $310.00 on that dress. Of course, we were thrilled, sold the dress and the buyer was excited. Bottom line, had someone bought the dress for $189.00 they would have gotten an additional 20% off making the cost $151, they could have sold the dress on eBay and made more than twice that back.
If you've purchased something from our store and sold it for more than you paid we would love to hear your story!

This is the article that was published in the Q&A section of the Glenwood Spring Post Independent on December 18, 2009. It included a picture of Rachel and Jim Armstrong (owners) in front of their store, Last Chance Retail Outlet.
Last Chance retail outlet store, 823 Cooper Ave., opened up this month in Glenwood Springs, a little earlier than owners Jim and Rachel Armstrong expected to. Passers-by kept asking them when they would open, even though they had not received all the goods they were expecting, so they opened on Dec. 7. Located in the same building as Sunlight Mountain Ski and Bike Shop, but in the back facing Cooper Avenue, the store offers a range of brands and styles of clothing, and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays.
How would you describe your store, and the merchandise you offer to customers?
Our customers have described us as having “a little bit of everything.” Right now we have all clothes and accessories. Soon we will be receiving MAC Cosmetics, which will be a regular item in the store. We'll also be branching out into housewares. We carry brand names such as Aeropostale and American Eagle. We'll also be getting Hollister, Abercrombie & Fitch, GAP and Old Navy. We also carry high-end designer labels like Juicy Couture, Ralph Lauren, T-bags, Eileen Fisher, Johnny Was and more.
How do you compare to a consignment shop or thrift store?
We differ from them because our items are all new, most of them even have their original tags. Our pricing, however, is very comparable. Some customers have already commented that our prices are even better and that our variety is greater.
Why open a store now, in the depths of what has been called the Great Recession, when many people are out of work and the economic future of the region is anything but certain?
Opening at this time is certainly not without risk, but our focus is to provide quality name brands at a deep discount. This region has needed a store like us to satisfy the needs, even the demand, for what we have to offer.
What made you choose the location you did?
Availability for public parking and a lease that suited our needs.
Do you think there is an advantage to being downtown as opposed to one of the malls at the edge of town?
Definitely. Downtown is the heart of this great community. It's downtown you attend church, go to the library or stroll the streets and feel that sense of what our city is about.
Whom do you think your main target is in terms of potential customers?
The locals, whether they are in middle school, high school, in college, graduated or retired. We have a range of merchandise for everyone. We will eventually carry clothes for children, meeting that need as well.
Do you order certain merchandise with particular groups of potential buyers in mind, and if so, what kinds of things fall into that category?
We are still in the process of finding out who our target market is. We will attempt to meet the demands of our customers. Our goal is to offer “a little bit of everything.”
How much of your stock is of a general nature, the kind of thing people might come in an browse until they find it.
The brands and designers we carry consist of everything from T-shirts and jeans to formal gowns and suits. It's a fun store to browse because there is so much variation.
What are your store hours, and do you think you will be changing them seasonally, to satisfy customer requests or other reasons?
Shopping Hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. We're happy with those hours for now, but already see a potential need for staying open later. We will be open Dec. 20 from 1 until 6 p.m., for those still searching for the perfect gift.
Finally, given your profession, readers might like to know: Which are the brands that most dominate your closets at home?
Between the two us we have a lot of Aeropostale, Hollister, American Eagle, Gap and Old Navy. There are a few designer labels in there like Joe's Jeans, Ralph Lauren, John Varvatos, etc. I don't know about you, but we've not been able to afford the designer labels … until now.
